"Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a biological manufacturing process where waste materials such as food wastes, animal manures and sewage sludges are converted, in the absence of oxygen, to products such as biogas and digestate. AD is traditionally a liquid process; that is, it often occurs in sealed reactors processing a thin liquid with a 93 to 99 percent moisture content.... Mixing maintains integrity of the decomposition process by improving circulation and consistency, and minimizing volumes of the scum and grit layers."

"On May 4, Clean Water Services, Energy Trust of Oregon and the Oregon Department of Energy formally announced the implementation of a new cogeneration system that converts wastewater and grease into renewable energy. The innovative system, which is part of Clean Water Services Durham Treatment Facility, is the third cogeneration system in Oregon to codigest fats, oils and grease (FOG)."

"Construction is nearing completion, and all the equipment is installed at CR&R Inc.'s high solids anaerobic digester (AD) facility in Perris, California. “We are approaching a dry run with the digester to test out the various system components, and then will fine-tune the process controls,” notes Paul Relis, CR&R Senior Vice-President. “We will likely start processing feedstocks in the digesters in the first quarter of 2016.”"
