Portable Classroom Project

The Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership

The objective of this project is to promote the adoption of energy efficient portable classrooms in the Pacific Northwest that provide an enhanced learning environment, high indoor air quality, and energy savings that are both substantial and cost-effective.

During a three-year effort, project staff from WSU and the energy offices of Oregon and Idaho, studied both new, energy efficient portable classrooms and a retrofitted classroom (originally built in the 1970s). Results from these studies are provided in the final project report.

As a result of these studies and additional computer modeling, project staff developed a series of energy-efficient guidelines for portable classrooms in the Pacific Northwest. These guidelines cover the procurement, set-up and commissioning of new portable classrooms, as well as the retrofitting of existing portable classrooms.
