Pacific Northwest Extension Energy Initiative

The partnership of Extension in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska with the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) is conducting a project known as the Pacific Northwest Extension Energy Initiative. This initiative is part of a national effort employing Extension as a delivery tool for U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).

Because of rising energy costs, supply alternatives and new opportunities, energy is a very timely topic for many Pacific Northwest Extension customers.

To help Extension agents meet the growing needs of their constituents, and to help them face new challenges in the energy arena, local Extension offices will be able to tap into, and direct constituents to the highly reputable and useful one-stop energy resource center – the EERE Information Center -- managed and operated by the Washington State University Extension Energy Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy.

The selected target audiences for this project are local and county government officials including schools, boroughs, cities, tribes and other local government entities. The focus is energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The center will make available expertise in bioenergy (biomass, biofuels), geothermal, hydrogen and fuel cells, solar, waste heat recovery, wind, municipal water/wastewater, pumping and more. Much of this expertise is not normally available to EERE customers.

Information and technical assistance is now available from Extension Energy Experts. The toll-free number is 1-877-337-3463.
