Search Tips
Types of Searches
Types of Searches may be used separately or combined
- Keyword Anywhere Search searches every field of every article citation for your search words or phrases. AND finds citations including words entered in both boxes. OR finds citations including words entered in either box.
- Specific Search searches only the field(s) where you have entered words. You may enter words in as many fields as you wish, but the more search fields you use, the more you limit your results. For a full keyword search of all fields, use the Keyword Anywhere Search.
General Search Tips
- Singular or root versions of search words work best. "chill" will find "chill," "chiller," "chillers," "chilled," and more. "chillers" will only find "chillers."
- Truncation, or stemming, is automatic at both ends of a word. "Humid" will find humidity" "humidify," and "dehumidification."
- Case (upper or lower) does not matter.
- Spelling and, unfortunately, punctuation do matter. Try hyphenated words or phrases with and without the hyphen.
- Useful general search words and phrases to use in combination with specific terms:
case study, diagram, statistics, forecasting, retrofit, residential, commercial, industrial, graph. Example: Keyword Search Anywhere: compress AND diagram
- Don't bother with words like "energy" or "efficient;" they are understood for most citations, and you will eliminate useful entries by including them.
Results Lists
- Too short? Think of another way to describe what you are looking for, and use the Keyword Anywhere Search OR option to enter both versions. Example: "ASD" OR "adjustable speed drive."
- Too long? Try a more specific word, or use the Keyword Anywhere Search AND option to add another word to narrow the search. Also, results are relevance ranked, so last citations may only include one of your search words.
- No results? Check your spelling and make sure you don't have leftover search words somewhere on the Search Form. The Reset button will clear the Search Form.
